Well after an eventful journey we finally made it to Wales after an epic ten hour journey. It took an age to get out of London then, no sooner did the open motorway beckon than our first hire car broke down. After standing around on the hard shoulder as traffic whizzed by we were rescued by a breakdown man in a van. He looked like an ex-member of Status Quo, checked the hire car, advised us to get another then escorted us to get a replacement. A short while later we were back on the road only to discover that the motorway was closed requiring a long and tedious detour via Slough. International readers may never have heard of Slough, suffice to say the poet Sir John Betjeman once penned a line which read 'come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough', need i say more?
Anyway, hours later we got back to the M4 motorway and continued West, driving into the night until we passed the Black Mountain (i feel like i am describing a Tolkenesque quest penning that line) until we found, at the third attempt, the cottage in Wales which will be Owner and my home for the next fortnight. That was Saturday.
Sunday we rose reasonably early and headed up to one of the local ruined castles, had a picnic and then onto a ruined Abbey. Wales is slowly locking down again due to Covid-19 but, touch wood, the places closing are to the East of where we are staying. That said, if we do end up having to lock down here for a bit i won't be too devastated. The cottage has a little garden and a conservatory and is a far cry from our small London flat.
But back to our adventures. Today we headed down to the Gower peninsula, a beautiful area of coastline on the Southern tip of Wales. We did a lovely walk along a headland and then headed down a steep cliff path to the beach so that i could pose in my bikini. Owner was less than pleased by the prospect of a trek back up the path to the clifftop and seeing the pictures when we got home i realised that something seemed to have gone awry with my beach-ready body. My bikini would have looked better on somewhat slimmer me, maybe the 2018 model rather than the 2020 one which appears to have 'padded out; a little around the belly? Oh well.
You can see for yourself from the pictures below
In contrast to the whale on the beach, Wales itself is beautiful. Here are just a couple of pictures from the first two days, we have two weeks of this still to come, and hopefully some more photoshoots too :)
