Notes from a Failing State

Apologies but this post is going to start with a rant

Well, what an 'interesting' week this has been in the UK. Our narcissistic, incompetent, lying, Trumpesque little shit of a Prime Minister has finally said that he will stand down from office. At one point over fifty ministers andMPs from his own party resigned in protest against him. Since then some temporary new ministers have been installed including amongst them a new Education Minister, who was filmed last week giving the bird to members of the public, and a new Chancellor who is under investigation over tax irregularities. Honestly, you could not make this shit up.

Now we have the spectacle of a Tory party leadership election which will pit an unedifying mix of the, completely mad and incompetent against each other to see who can debase themselves the most before the party's geriatric, right-wing membership to get elected and become the next Prime Minister. What joy! As the late, great Terry Pratchett once wrote 'There is a curse...May you live in interesting times'. Well, we certainly have been since 2016 with the self-inflicted clusterfuck that is Brexit, Boris, then Covid and a war in Europe. i mean, what else could possibly happen next?

i write all the above in what is, ostensibly, a non-political blog because it has all been rather distracting. Owner and i have sat, open mouthed all week, watching and reading the news which has been bad for my behavior and development. i have remained just about on top of my daily chores but that has been about it. Owner deserves better from Her wife.

In other news. Last night Owner took me out to dinner and then to a performance of Cosi Fan Tutte at the Royal Opera House. She allowed me to have a cider to drink with my meal and even allowed me to choose between one of three possible dishes She short-listed for me from the restaurant menu rather than simply choosing one for me Herself. The restaurant and theatre were both packed - it is good to see London 'back to normal' - and we had a lovely time. Here are a couple of pictures from the evening;

Meanwhile, i am pleased to report that i have been working out daily for over a month to try and lose my belly, build my butt and shed some weight (i have put put on almost a stone/6.5kgs since last year). Judging by how frequently Owner has been grabbing my arse of late i think the butt building might be working. She particularly seems to like it when i wear shorts that She can slip Her hand inside when we are out and about - and i love nothing better than being groped by Her in public. :)

i have also, with Owners' permission, started to grow my hair long again. About ten years ago it was shoulder-length but i have worn it quite short since then. However, i miss being able to tie it up and so asked Owner the other day if i could grow it long again. She agreed and so that is what i will be doing. My hair is quite fine and i have a high hairline (which i have had since childhood) so how this will turn out i don't know. Time, as they say, will tell.

That's about it for now. i hope everyone is keeping well.

A large majority of over-50 white voters in the US and the UK are disgusting right-wing cretins. Btw, I'm white & over 50. And wouldn't vote for a Republican if you paid me.

Anonymous - and like you and me some over 50s are pretty ok. What really cheers me up though is when i look at younger people, then i actually feel pretty good about the future.

You asked the above question? Seriously? Boris technically has dual citizenship with the UK and the USA (he was born in the US). That stupid mini-Trump fuck *could* in theory...run for POTUS. You asked what other catastrophic event could happen? *That.* :)

Good job on the working out. It helps so much with stress and sleep, just generally being happier, besides the obvious physical benefits.

Vanessa - there is *That* possibility although i think the Republicans would still find even he was too liberal for them now. They've traveled so far to the right they are off the page into really quite dangerous territory.

Agree re exercise although we are now having another heatwave which kind of counteracts the sleep benefits - still i may lose more weight due to fluid loss from sweating! :)
